1. The Contest

The Astrolabe DJs Battle 2026 is a DJ competition organised by WeLively Events, taking place on 4 September 2026 at Astrolabe, Mount Maunganui, New Zealand. The contest is open to DJ applicants worldwide.

2. Eligibility

• Applicants must be 17 years of age or older at the time of submission.
• The contest is open to residents and international applicants.
• Finalists must be available and present in person on 4 September 2026 at Astrolabe, Mount Maunganui. Travel and accommodation are the responsibility of the applicant.
• WeLively Events staff, judges, and their immediate family members are not eligible to participate.

3. How to Enter

• Complete the online application form in full.
• Submit a link to a 30-minute original DJ mix via SoundCloud, Mixcloud, Google Drive or equivalent public platform.
• Pay the entry fee of $25 NZD (plus applicable GST and booking fee) via the payment link provided.
• All three steps must be completed for an application to be considered valid.

4. Entry Fee

• The entry fee is $25 NZD + GST and booking fee.
• The entry fee is non-refundable under any circumstances, including withdrawal, disqualification, or cancellation of an individual application.
• Applicants who are not selected will be added to the WeLively Events backup list and will be the first to be contacted for future events and opportunities. This is at no additional cost.
• Entry fees contribute directly to the prize pool and event production costs.

5. Selection Process

• A maximum of 12 DJs will be selected to participate in the contest.
• Applications will be reviewed by a panel of judges appointed by WeLively Events.
• Selection is based on the submitted 30-minute mix, assessed against the contest criteria including track selection, mixing technique, originality, artistic identity, and musical storytelling.
• All applicants will be notified of the outcome by 28 August 2026.
• The decision of the judges is final and no correspondence will be entered into regarding selection outcomes.

6. The Finals — 4 September 2026

• All 12 selected DJs will perform live at Astrolabe on September 4th, 2026, from 9pm.
• All finalists will perform on the venue's standard setup provided by Astrolabe: Pioneer CDJ 3000 + Pioneer DJM A9 mixer.
• Each finalist will receive a Red Bull kit on the night as part of their participation package.
• It is a battle format where participants face off against one another in front of a selected panel of judges and the crowd.
• Crowd voting counts for 40% of the final result — finalists are encouraged to invite their supporters.

7. Disqualification

WeLively Events reserves the right to disqualify any applicant or participant who:

• Submits a mix that was not recorded by the applicant, or that misrepresents their skills.
• Provides false, misleading or incomplete information in their application.
• Fails to comply with the contest format, rules or instructions given by the organisers.
• Is unavailable or fails to appear on the event date without prior written notice to WeLively Events.
• Behaves in a manner that is disrespectful, harmful or inconsistent with the values and artistic vision of WeLively Events and Astrolabe.
• Submits a set on the night that is entirely inconsistent with the genre and artistic direction of the contest without prior agreement with the organisers.

No refund of the entry fee will be issued in the event of disqualification.

8. Contest Format & Judging

• Each selected DJ will perform a live competitive set on the night of the event.
• The winner will be determined by a combination of 60% official judging panel and 40% audience vote.
• Judging criteria include: track selection, mixing skills, creativity, crowd engagement, and overall performance.
• The judging panel will be appointed by WeLively Events. Judges' identities may be announced prior to the event at the organisers' discretion.
• The decision of the judging panel is final.

9. Prizes

All 12 finalists receive:

• Red Bull kit on the night of the event

1st Place — Over $1,000 NZD value:

• $200 NZD cash prize
• $100 Astrolabe venue voucher
• Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX2 Controller (valued at approximately $350 NZD)
• 3 paid performance gigs at Astrolabe and/or WeLively Events
• Red Bull prize kit
• Featured promotion across WeLively platforms and social media

2nd Place — Over $600 NZD value:

• Pioneer DJ HDJ-CX Professional Headphones
• $50 Astrolabe venue voucher
• 1 paid performance gig at Astrolabe and/or WeLively Events
• Red Bull prize kit
• Featured promotion across WeLively platforms and social media

Prizes are non-transferable and cannot be exchanged for cash. Paid gigs are subject to scheduling and mutual agreement on dates. Prize values are approximate and subject to change.

10. Media & Intellectual Property

• By participating, all applicants and participants grant WeLively Events and Astrolabe a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use photographs, videos, audio recordings and any other content captured during the event for promotional, marketing and social media purposes.
• Participants will be credited where reasonably possible.
• Participants retain ownership of their original mixes and recorded sets.

11. Privacy

• Personal information collected through the application form will be used solely for the purpose of administering this contest and future WeLively Events communications.
• Non-selected applicants will be added to the WeLively Events backup list and may be contacted about future events. Applicants may opt out at any time by contacting us.
• WeLively Events will not sell or share personal data with third parties outside of event administration purposes.

12. Cancellation & Changes

• WeLively Events reserves the right to modify, postpone or cancel the contest at any time due to circumstances beyond its control.
• In the event of cancellation by the organisers, entry fees will be refunded minus any processing costs.

14. Governing Law

These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising from this contest shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.
